Ten of the Down answers each lose a letter to either the top or bottom
unnumbered row. In these cases, the remaining letters must be
anagrammed to form a new word, which is entered in the grid. The
clues for these ten entries contain definitions for both words, but the
wordplay describes only the longer of the two. The removed letters
will form two five-letter antonyms appropriate to the unclued four-word
phrase in the shaded rows.
